Braid Fun

I made my daughter kneel down with her head on my knees for the beginning of this hairstyle.
I started the french braid at the center bottom of her hair.  The french braid goes up her head half way up.  The front of her hair is in a small twist the only reason for this is my daughter wants to grow her bangs out.  The roll is keeping her bangs back,
Once the french braid is complete secure with a clear elastic.
Pull all the remaining hair into a ponytail and make a messy bun.
Below is a side view of the hairstyle.
Below is another view of the back of her hair.  This style was fun and easy.

Little Girl's Hairstyles - French Braid into Wrapped Ponytail 10-15 Min

So, if you come and hang out here looking at little girl's hairstyles, then we share something in common. We like cute hair on these little girls! Well, I love looking at other hair blogs and seeing their creative genius and admiring their handiwork. It's amazing what some of these gals can do! Right? Right. Well, like some of you too, I am a mom. A busy mom who has things to do, and most of the time it does not involve a lot of time to do fancy hair. Alas.....I share with you practical, cute, easy and fast hairstyles--most of the time. Right? Right.

    Take example A below.

This is a real life, real time hairstyle that we favor quite often in my house. Ponytails are often requested, and since I cringe at doing JUST a ponytail, I have to dress it up a bit. So here's our dressed up ponytail:

Start with semi damp hair in front, parted off to the side of the face. A good rule of thumb for a side part is to start the part in line with the center of the eye, and pull back to the crown.  I like to spray the parted hair with water and comb down both sides of part to keep it smooth.
Do a french braid on the larger side, angling it straight down to the ear, and continue the braid to the ends of the hair.
Comb the rest of the hair straight back into a ponytail, bringing in the french braid on the side. I spray all around the head where I'm combing in the hair, as the water will make it lay smooth and stay in longer.
To make the wrap around the ponytail, take a section of hair from underneath. I like to take a fairly thick piece of hair, to cover the elastic nicely.
Wrap the piece around the elastic and the french braid piece of hair until you come to the ends.
At this point, wrap the hair ends in, and grab your clear elastic.
Wrap your clear elastic around the ponytail, making sure to tuck in the ends of the wrapped section. When it's secured, take the elastic out of your french braid and smooth that section into the rest of the ponytail.
This hairstyle was featured in my Christmas hairbow section, showing off these cuties from Lil Cutie Hairbows.
With a little hip action as well.
If you are ambitious, and the ends of the ponytail need some help, curl it with your curling iron, or round brush it, or wet it down (if she has some natural curl) and wrap it around your finger and spray with hairspray.  Or do what your conscience dictates (or if you are like me, what the clock dictates!).

Toddler Pigtails

I started by making a center part all the way down her hair.  Then I made 2 puffy braids on each side going up her hair.
Then I went to the front left side of her head and make one small ponytail going towards the back of her hair.
On the right side I made one small ponytail on the front top of her head and one small one above her ear.  My daughter doesn't have a lot of hair so we made more ponytails to keep the hair pulled back.  Then I pulled all the ponytails on one side into a ponytail (doing the same to the other side)
The picture below is the right side of her head.
This picture below is of the left side of her head.

Feature of the Day: Laine

    Your name/username
My name is Laine Diane Lina my username Laine Didi Lina

    Where are you from?
    Paris, France

How long have you been transitioning?
I have been transitioning since July the 15th

Tell us your hair story. Why did you decide to transition?
I decided to transtion because i had lived all my life without knowing my natural hair texture. My mother who is a chinese/indian mixed woman relaxed my hair early. I was about 3 or 4. She didn't really know how to manage them plus she thought that straight hair was the best (and i think she's still thinking that). It hurts me sometimes when i think about this but i don't blame her. She has grown with this false ideas...So i grew up in relaxing my hair, hidding them under weave or sew-in to be like my cousins. Then this year i knew that I couldn't go through this anymore.
I tried to transition once in january 09 but I relaxed my hair in April. I don't why i did it. Maybe I wasn't ready. Then i tried in July and cut my relaxed hair in October. I woke up and knew that I wanted it so much.

What have you discovered so far in your transitioning journey?
I've learn to use the most natural products i can, drink lot of water: Now i can't even think of drinking soda and have a healthy diet. I've also learn to love me the way i am and not try to be like the girls i'd love to be.

What technique has helped you the most during your transition?
Moisturize a lot to avoid breakage, perpooing and Deep conditioning a lot. Braid outs helped me too.

    Your advice to the readers
Euhh well...Be patient! Never forget why you're doing this cause this is the result the most important thing! Never let your goal down!!

Little Girl's Hairstyles - How to do a Side Twist Video Tutorial

This is a hairstyle that I do frequently on my gals. It's fast, and usually cooperates with me. It's also one that seems to draw a lot of comments when we are out and about.....so hopefully this video will be of some value to you! Also, I really and truly promise I do NOT give my children lollipops ALL the time. In fact I usually confiscate them when they bring them home from wherever. Because I have to have them. For later. When we do videos. :)

Make it or Break it Fun with Lauren's Braids

More Make it or Break it Fun.
I made a small part down towards her ear.  This is going to be 1 of the braids.
French braid the hair all the way to the end
Do another small french braid starting at the lateral part.  Braid all the way to the end of her hair.
I pulled all the remaining hair into a side ponytail leaving the braids out at first.
Pull the braids down so they lay along the outside edge of her hair.
Then we made a messy bun  and added a flower for fun.
Below is what the back looks like.

Little Girl's Hairstyles - Ponytails with twist braid 5-7 min

When I ask my little gal here what hairstyle she wants in the morning, she almost always says, "Just a ponytail.......puh-leeze??" And believe it or not......I don't always want to do fancy schmancy hair. SO, here's a little girl's hairstyle that's cute, easy, FAST, and it pleases my little sweetie.
For this one I did an angle part in the front, and then zig zagged it in the back. When I part off for ponytails like this, where all the hair will be involved, I always spray the parts with water, and comb the hair away from the part. This helps me from combing the hair into the wrong side.
After putting her hair in ponytails, I took about a third of her ponytail, from the front of the pony, and put it in a twist braid. If your daughter's hair isn't naturally straight, you can straighten it or roundbrush it, if you prefer (or just leave it wavy!) The point with this hairstyle is to minimize time! When you are done, send those beauties off with a pat and say "Go forth and play!" :)

Make it or Break it More Lauren Fun Braids

We have so much fun with Lauren's Braids on the TV Show Make it or Break it.
I started with a far lateral part.
I made 2 french braids down each side of her head.  The tricky part is leaving a small amount of hair on her crown out of the braid.  (This is shown in the picture 2 below here)
The braid on her left starts clear over by her part and goes across the front of her head.  I made this a loose braid to give a poof in the front.
Shown below is the 2 braids completed while leaving a small amount of hair not braided in the center of the 2 braids.  I did this because I didn't want braid lines.
I then pulled all the hair into a ponytail.  Once the hair was in the ponytail I braided the remaining hair.
I then took all 3 braids and pulled them around the ponytail and secured with a clear elastic.
I used bobbie pins to pull the braids apart and give an even look for the bun.
