So, I stumbled across this gorgeous man and his beautiful loc's on Tumblr last week. I had no idea he was a DC resident but after taking his pic and posting it on InstaGram, I quickly found out who he was. Ladies, meet 22 y/o Jamal and his 5 y/o locs. His story is under the jump so if you want to read more, click it!
1. Tell us a little about yourself? Well, I'm Jamal, 22 from DC. I went to Baltimore International College of Culinary Arts and majored in professional cooking and baking. I’m a lyricist because the term rapper wouldn't properly classify me. I'm also a poet. It's funny because I hated writing in school; I was more if a math geek.
2. How long have you been growing your locs? I've been locking for about 5 years.
3. What do you use on your hair, product wise, to maintain it? I use this mango lime gel when I get it retwisted, and Caribbean oil to keep it moisturized.
4. How often do you have to wash and re-twist your loc’s and who styles them? I wash and retwist them 1-2 times a month. I try not to do it too often because my dreads are slightly small and if they get thinner then they'd probably break off. I think id look odd with patches in my head. I just recently started going back to the girl who started them. Her name is Von.
5. What do you think about women with natural hair? Do you care if your woman is relaxed, natural or loc’d? I like women with natural hair, only if it's well kept though. I have no preference just no tracks.
6. Do you think women who choose to loc their hair are sexy? I love women with locs, they are a joy to look at. I need a woman with locs in my life.
7. What are the pros and cons about having your hair loc’d?
Pros everything! Nah, I'm kidding. I like the attention I suppose (some days). I also like getting them pulled for personal reasons. Cons, how heavy they get and they are in the way sometimes. I end up chewing on them all the time when I'm eating
8. What made you decide to loc your hair? Have you always had hair or did you start your loc’s from “scratch.” I hated getting my hair done, fresh off the boat nappy, so I decided to loc it. I loc'd my hair from scratch little gel twist and everything.
9. What makes a woman’s hair beautiful to you? How well it's kept. If its shaved keep it shaved, loc'd then keep it done.
10. Do you have any advice for my readers who are considering loc’ing their hair? Do that it, but only if you're willing to invest the time. It's not a short process but the time does fly by.
11. Where can we find you on the web? You can find me on twitter @loverboymal, my Facebook "Jamal Bonner" not bone-r lol it’s pronounced Bon-Ner, oh and Tumblr of course "TheDrunkenEnigma" I think I still got a MySpace page lol.
