Last week I announced on Twitter that I needed some more men's POV features on the blog! @ShawnE2120 let me know that her hubby Dee would be more than interested to answer a few questions. I am very excited to share this post with you all and I hope you enjoy.
xoxo,
Alex
Very, I love neat, clean, and hair that smells good.
Did your wife have to wear her hair a certain way to keep grab your interest? (i.e. which styles down vs. ponytail vs. bun, hair length?) Not at all as long as it looks nice and she feels confident, I love it.
Do you think that there is a ‘Natural Hair Movement’ or trend going on these days? Why do you think so many women are choosing to go natural now, do you think it’s a fad?
I do think it’s a movement, a positive one. I think more women are becoming comfortable with being themselves and mite caring about what others say about them. However, I don't think it’s a fad, I hope it’s here to stay.
Do you support your partner's/family members (i.e. mother, sister, daughter) decision on going natural? Not only have I supported my wife. I actually did her big chop. My daughters are natural as well and they always ask my opinion when mommy finishes styling; I love it.
How important is hair texture to you? It isn't at all, my wife and 2 daughters all have different textures but I love them all. The versatility is never ending.
How do you feel about your significant others natural hair? Does her texture affect your opinions on whether she should remain natural or not?
Since my wife’s big chop I have been in love with her kinky, coily, curly hair. I hope she decides to stay natural.
What is your definition of “Good Hair” and how do you feel about the word “Nappy?” Good hair is clean, healthy, and neat regardless of texture.
Would you rather your partner wear her hair natural or in a weave, why or why not? I love my wife’s natural hair...she stands out with it...its edgy and very sexy to me. Weaves are ok and I know women use weaves to switch up their styles but sometimes weaves can be too big and look fake.
Since you are a married man do you think your wife should consult with you when it comes to making changes to her hair? It’s not mandatory but my wife always asks my opinion and that makes me feel like what I say is valued.
Why does it seem like some men are “hung up” on hair length?
Men are programmed to prefer longer hair. Commercials, television, and magazine ads feature the light skin long straight hair women, which I'm not knocking...but beauty comes in all textures, lengths, and colors.
Does it matter to you? No it doesn't matter I love it all.
Would you be supportive in your partner’s journey to go natural? I already have been and will support anyone else in my family that makes the switch.
What makes black women and their hair unique and beautiful to you?
The versatility is amazing. I can't keep up with the different styles. T, braids, twist-out, flat twist, buns, dreads to name a few; bet you didn't know I knew that much, huh? They are all beautiful.
Who is your favorite “curly girl?” (i.e. celebrity, actress, friend, ect.)
My wife of course, a few of my co-workers and you as well Ms. Alex.
